FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does my grain bag work?

The grain we use in our products is locally sourced.  They insulate well, whether you choose to use your bag as a warm bag (utilising the microwave) or a cold bag (utilising the freezer).   As the grains heat up, so does the water molecules inside the grain.  Our products easily contour to the area of the body you wish to treat.

How long should I heat my grain bag?

It is important to recognise everyone's tolerance to heat is not the same, just as microwaves are not all the same.  It is recommended that you check that your turntable within your microwave is functioning appropriately prior to heating.  We suggest that you place a small mug of water in the microwave as you heat up your grain bag.  We recommend that you heat up your bag in 30 second increments up to 1 minute and subsequently in 15 second increments to your liking (up to 2 minutes total).  Heat is emitted slowly, so it is imperative that you check the temperature on your forearm for 10 seconds first.  Do not attempt to overheat your grain bag, as this can cause severe injury and cause damage to the contents of your bag.  Wait until your grain bag is completely cool before you reheat.  Please do not use a conventional oven to heat your grain bag.  Do not continue to use a grain bag that emits a burnt smell.  Grain bags should not be given to children to use.  Additionally, the elderly should exercise caution when using grain bags.

How long should I place my bag in the freezer to obtain a cold compress?

We recommend that you place your grain bag into a resealable plastic bag prior to placing it in the freezer.  Your bag should be placed in the freezer for 1-3 hours prior to use.  The bags maintain a therapeutic level of cold for approximately 20 minutes (depending on the ambient temperature).  They remain chilled for 30-40minutes.

How do I clean my grain bag?

We suggest that a simple spot clean is all that is required to clean your grain bag.  Please do not place your bag in the washing machine or the dryer.  By heating your bag in the microwave, you will kill germs or bacteria from someone who has previously used the item.

How can I add scent to my grain bag?

All of our grain bags are free from fragrances to start out with, unless specified.  Scents like lavender, lemon myrtle and eucalyptus can all be applied by adding a small amount of essential oil once the bag has been heated.  This can be done by adding 1-2 drops of essential oil to water in a spray bottle.  2-3 sprays should be sufficient to give your bag a beautiful fragrance.

Where can I purchase additional grain bags from?

At present, Solv Safir has one outlet where you can purchase their grain bags: The Botanic House in Nagambie, Victoria.  If they don't have the option you are looking for or if you need to contact us, you can do so by sending us a message.  We will soon be selling our grain bags on this website as well.  Keep your eyes peeled for the launch of this (and perhaps additional products of a similar nature)!
